“Bursting Blue Bone Bark” is the melding of two artists, Eric Mingus and Knox Chandler, brewing a stew of post apocalyptic urban blues. Their brotherhood spans several decades originating from Hal Willner’s themed concerts, in which they performed with Lou Reed, Dr. John, Nick Cave, Laurie Anderson, David Byrne, Brian Ferry, U2 and many more… Mingus and Chandler combine song and poetry with organic infused electronics, blending styles steeped in a futuristic sonic soup.
“operatic, unhinged, punk and terrifying”- timeout.com … Eric Mingus is a bit of a polymath when it comes to his music. Trained classically as a vocalist, he sings the blues like nobody’s business, improvises with the best of them, and plays a fierce bass. Creates worlds with his words whether he speaks or sings. When famed producer Hal Willner needs that special moment in his multi artist shows, he calls Eric. Hubert Sumlin loved the way Eric brought “soul” to the blues. When Elliott Sharp wanted a vocalist for his project Terraplane, he knew Eric was the right voice to bring the contemporary blues to his musical vision. Eric has a unique sensibility when bringing music to film, and has scored two documentaries on boxing for ESPN. His passion to write and perform poetry was encouraged by the likes of Allen Ginsberg, Jack Micheline and Lou Reed. One of Eric’s most recent successes is the creation of his unique take on the Who’s Tommy. Working with Hal Willner, Eric brought a brilliant reworking of a rock classic to the Adelaide Arts Festival (2015)
Knox Chandler’s career has spanned for over three decades, including performing, recording, arranging and producing, with such acts as REM, Depeche Mode, Grace Jones, Marianne Faithful, Natalie Merchant, The Creatures, Dave Gahan Paper Monsters and The Golden Palominos etc.. His long stints as a member of The Psychedelic Furs, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Cyndi Lauper’s band; has given Knox the experience of a worldwide recording and touring musician. Since taking up residence in Berlin, in 2012, he has concentrated on his solo project, Sound Ribbons/ Tone Poems. This project is an auditory and visual expression of four decades of experience in processing, manipulating and looping the electric guitar. Recent shows with X Patsy’s (Robert Longo, Barbara Sukowa), J.G.Thirwell, Butterfly Percussion Parade (Budgie, Mabi, Sugizo, Leonard Eto), touring and; and his solo guitar performances demonstrate his current importance in contemporary music. He has scored several films for film director Christina Voigt. One of which, “Fontana Promenade” was part of an installation at the Deutsches Historisches Museum. Knox was also the musical director for “Concert for Nepal 2015”, bringing together twenty four artists and musicians to perform, raising money for the earthquake victims of Nepal.
